‍ ‍

  • Quick Practice Checklist

    •  Warm up with Low G → D scale exercise.

    •  Practice D → Low A, placing D finger on last.

    •  Practice B → D, lifting highest finger first to avoid a run.

    • C ↔ B transitions: off 1st on 2nd.

    •  Stay slow, steady, and accurate.

    •  Focus on control over speed.

    • Don’t play faster than you can control your fingers. Control is KEY

Not being in control doesn’t work well in piping, driving a car, running down a hill (insert your own experience) Again…. Control is KEY.

    Remember:

In piping, speed comes naturally over time.
Right now, your job is accuracy, clean finger movement, and listening.

Lesson 7: Note Study

1. D → Low A

Fingering

  • Lift A finger.

  • Place B, C, and D fingers together.

Common Issue

  • Runs happen if fingers land at different times.

Fix

  • Delay the D finger slightly — let it be the last to come down.

2. B → D

Fingering

  • Lift B and C fingers.

  • Place pinky (low A finger).

Common Issue

  • Runs when two fingers lift unevenly.

Fix

  • Lift the highest finger first (D finger), then C.

  • Finally, place the pinky.

4. C ↔ B

Fingering Rule

  • Off first → On second.

  • Careful timing when going up or down.

Practice Sequence

  • C → B → C → B slowly.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Fingers not landing together → unwanted “runs.”

  • Playing too fast before control is established.

  • Ignoring the off-first/on-second rule.

  • Forgetting to listen for mistakes — ear training is part of practice.
